The Classic 1940's!

Hello All! I hope you liked the Photos, but it is time for another weekly interior Blog!!

We went to the Vintage fair on Saturday it was fab and later on this week we shall share our day with you, when we get the chance to! So keep Checking!!

Today we are traveling back to the good old 1940's , I simply loved the Kitchens in this period, full of bold colours and shapes! There was always one significant colour that stands out from the rest of them, often taken from the primary colours, Red, Blue, Yellow! Lets take a look at some typical gorgeous 1940's styles...
Here are some Classic kitchen Units , you can find some separate standing ones in antique shops today!!

The dominant colour here is Blue! Just Look at the classic Curtain drapes, so sweet, they just makes the room along with the gorgeous patterned flooring.
Another Primary colour for a dominant stand out bright colour!

This one has a dominant of Yellow , and is cleverly tied in with hints of yellow, the space in this kitchen is cleverly used and the shape of the room really gives it that extra edge!

Here is a more modern version of a 1940's kitchen, notice the glass bricks on the counter, a cutie classic there!!

A gorgeous example here, just gorgeous!!
Well there you have it some cute 1940's Kitchens, the 1940's was a dramatic time as i am sure you know as World War 2 took place in the first Half of the Decade and The second half of the decade was spent putting it right!! So they did well to have made such Lovely , cheerful, inspirational Kitchens!

Thank you For reading and Supporting!! Don't forget to check the Blog for regular updates, Please comment questions below, or tell me any historical facts about the 1940's as i am by far a historical expert! Also if you have any subjects you may wish me to write about, or any time periods , then please comment below, any specific rooms, anything just comment below and i shall try my best to respond to them! Thank you again for reading , much Love , Buttercup x x x

Rocking it Retro Style! x

Rocking It RETRO!

Hey Everyone, Sorry i haven't done a new article but i promise you i have been working on the Blog in other ways! I am preparing for our Photo Shoot, so excited, can't wait to show all the pictures to all you hunnies!!

Today's Blog is about a Vintage BOYS room, we are steering away from Shabby Chic for this one and heading towards RETRO! I have had so many requests and hay? why shouldn't i? Boys can have vintage style to!! I will try and get through all the requests, so stay in tune and Contact us  if you have any ideas you would like us to explore.

Retro has a simplistic view on it and is jazzed up by the accessories! Like this living area here,
A CLASSIC example of Retro, Love it! Pure Genius!

However the accessories could be replaced with bright patterns and Colours, Like for example this retro wallpaper...
This shows the detail some retro designs can show, this is a plainer design in colour, however the furniture and accessories all tie in to give it that Retro's look!

Retro is all about not being afraid to mix and match and experiment. It is all about the bold patterns , and it shows the technique of clashing beautifully! Don't be afraid to let your personality influence your design, for example here is a gorgeous room, with a hand done collaged wallpaper...

Furnishing!
This can be bold, bright , patterned , whatever you like! I would advise you not to go to far by using a colour not in the wallpaper if the wallpaper is colourful and bold!
You could put a modern twist on it...
This is a modern version, co-operating with bright colours and unusual shapes!

Or you could stick to the classic stuff (My personal favorite , but it doesn't hurt to show the options)...
Then there are the more bold and outgoing designs...
The colours tie in here , and the patterns represent a classic clash in Retro style!
This has the amazing three stripe pattern randomly going around the room, it has bold colours and i simply adore it!

Now there is the Retro accessories! Now these can vary depending on the design , but here are a few cutie examples...
The accessories in this photograph , really bring the whole piece to life!
This is an overwhelming photograph, with so many Retro accessories , OMG!!

These are some lovely cushions, encouraging the orange pallet, a popular colour in Retro!

Well there you have it Boys, a little something for you! Please don't forget to support us and recommend any ideas for new articles! Please comment below anything that you may have that is Retro or Retro inspired or post a photo to us on Facebook! I would love to hear from you! Thank you for Reading! Much Love, Buttercup x x

Vintage and modern are best friends if you think it through!! xx

Best Buds are Modern and Vintage...
Modern day appliances are something we nowadays find it hard to live without so can you incorporate them into big designs??

Interior for me is a way to express yourself in your home. It doesn't matter to me so much what others think as the idea is that you personalize it so someone knows it is YOUR room. It is a place that is you a place you can go to for support , a place you can stay in for as long as you want!

But how would you express yourself?? Well through colour, through words , through accessories  through statements (for example statement mirrors, check out my other article: www.vintagecountryrose.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/buttercup-statement-mirrors-xx.html )
Rooms need to be helpful and fit to your everyday needs for example if you have a collection of some sort you could devise a vintage compartment look at this one...

There are so many different ways to express yourself but for me it has got to be one colour that stand out from all the rest in  the room a bright colour that you love like this, for example...

Vintage doesn't mean old! You can combine modern day appliances into your design especially for places like the kitchen as i said sometimes the accessories tell the whole story and make the room...

Modern and Vintage are best friends if you just take the time to think it through and include accessories! People miss them out, and think well the main plan is more important but sometimes one accessory can influence your whole room design!! Don't leave accessories till last they can MAKE or BREAK a room!!

Haha again, please comment if you have any question or have a specific subject you may want me to write about .... Thank you , Buttercup xxx

Norfolk , ideal for Vintage

If you love Vintage things , norfolk is really a wonderful county to be in .I think something about the sea air makes people decide to make lots of little cute decorations ! There are so many little shops around norfolk , near the coast , or closer to land , all selling very beautiful little trinkets and decorations. I love all these little shops , and i have always wanted to work in one .

They all sell little hanging decorations. I love them , if you have a blank space in your house , you simple have to put up one of these , they really look lovely .

Whats more , they make stunning gifts for close friends and family .Nobody can resist the charm of a beautiful hanging decoration , im sure !
Another thing lots of norfolk shops sell that i love , are little signs. No matter how big or small , they are simply beautiful .

Whether they are posh little Shabby chic ones or proper old fashioned signs , they are all stunning to look at .And they make great things to talk about in your house , immediately grabbing attention. Humorous ones are even better , even if what they have on them isn't that funny.Norfolk really is the perfect place for that sort of thing .

Lately I have been LUSTING after these tremendously beautiful photo albums to but photos in , but whenever i see one in a little shop , i never seem to have money on me.But i am determined to get one , one of these days ! They are so pretty and ornate , and it would  make my pictures look even more special

Thanks for reading ,
Your pal

Revamping Your Room

Wanting to redecorate your room?
Decorating your room should be a fun task , but nowadays it can be complicated. How you want your room , and how you can decorate your room , are two different things entirely. But do you want to decorate your room in a Vintage Like Style? Here is a guide to how you can do that .Enjoy!

 "Shabby chic" Your things
This tip is quick and simple. Take some of your old furniture , or new , its up to you. Make sure its a vintage color , like a light , green , yellow , red or pink. If it isn't one of those colors , get some paint , and paint the furniture .You don't have to be a superb painter , it does matter,  as we are going to sandpaper it later. Leave it to dry for about twenty minutes , not enough time for the paint to dry completely , but to have it almost dry. This will make the paint easier to sand paper off .Only use one layer of paint , you want it to crack if possible , to make it look more old.
Take your sand paper and you have two options here .
option one : you sand paper it roughly and fast , making to furniture like old and scratched
Option two: you take more time with your sandpaper , making it look more cracked, and rough.
Continue to sand paper it until you are happy with the result.

Just a simple design!
Top tip! You could apply glue over the top of this , to keep any flakes from coming off,  or anymore of it cracking. The glue will dry and give the furniture a glossy varnish. Or you could of course , just use varnish! :)

Cushions
To help decorate a cushion you have , you could make a fun cover for it .Maybe out of your old clothes that you no longer wear , or lovely material. I recommend something with flowers on , or a small printed design. Create sort of flaps at the back , so it can fit around the cushion .And ta da ! A new pillow case cover. Completely original to you !

Top tip! I know going into charity shops isn't "hip" these days , but many charity shops will have wonderful vintage style clothes , that you could cut up and use for materiel! And it saves you a heap of cash.

 Little nick knacks
This is probably my favorite part of the whole vintage look .Little decorations that you can hang up or put somewhere. I always love them.No matter how many i have , i always , always want more ! And so here are some that you can make or buy for yourself , for very little money :

Boxes : You always see those beautifully decorated boxes in cute little shops , you can always make your own for a fraction of the price ! In my family , we tend to get lots of boxes , chocolate tins , shoe boxes , Vaseline tubs , anything. You just start with one of those , and you find some material that you like , or even newspaper or wrapping paper , and you cut out some that fits your box , and glue it on , that's just how simple it is to do ! If you do it carefully enough , nobody would guess that your beautiful ornate box was handmade !

Christmas tree decorations : This may sound a little odd , but i don't understand why some Christmas decorations aren't just used as little vintage decorations. You can hang them up in just the same way! What is the difference really? Just pick one that you love , and that's small and cute . Look on www.prettyandchic.co.uk. Many of their Christmas tree decorations could be used as normal room decorations .Try it yourself , maybe look in that bag in the garage , or on your tree now if you still have it up , are their any you could hang up?

Photo Frames : Many shops sell photo frames , or you may find one around your house. You could jazz one up? Buttons add a cute touch. You can get photo frames cheaply from anywhere , and they really suit the vintage theme.

Pillows as hanging decorations?! : Yes , you read it right. And now im not talking about a huge pillow , im talking about a very small one.If you have a small pillow , you can attach some ribbon to it and hang it up , done !

One of these ornate pillows

Little things : Little decorations can really jazz up the look of your room. Do you have a brooch that you never wear? Attach it to a strip of fabric and hang it up , an instant wonder! Or use prettily decorated glasses as vases  to put flowers in.

Bed as a centrepiece : Have your bed as the main thing in the room , and have beautiful bed covers to show it off to the max and design all your furniture around your bed .
