Carrie Bradshaw inspired outfits!

Our latest telly obsession has been over the addictive and adorable, "The Carrie Diaries" - half because of the drama, and half because of her fashion sense!

Carrie Bradshaw has an effortless style. She somehow mixes patterns that should not go, but do! Her style also somehow manages to be flirty, girly, bold and professional at the same time! So today we tried to channel her style and create some outfits. Ours are a little more wearable, but are still inspired by outfits that Carrie wears on the show. If you want to know where any of the clothes are from, there is a list at the bottom :)

Look 1, The Everyday one 

Carrie always looks fashionable, no matter where she is going. To school she tends to wear casual but unique clothes.

We chose a bright top with big flowers, and added the blue pinafore dress. The pinafore makes the outfit look very 80's. We added plain coloured tights that have small pink polka dots on it, to add a little pop of colour, and a simple beanie hat. The Pinafore has such an adorable back - adding a unique detail!

Look 2 , The party one.

This one channels Carries outgoing adventurous taste in clashing patterns and designs. Its very brave and daring, but will sure make you stand out from the crowd! The trick to making it more wearable is to choose a common coloured background. 

To make it less of a pattern overload, we tied a knot in the shirt, creating a nice bit of layering. This relaxes the look a lot more. The same thing can be achieved by wearing an undertop, or using a plain belt to split up patterns. 

Look 3,The work look

Carries internship in the city makes for just another event to wear killer clothes to! Her works clothes are still vibrant and fun, but have more of a professional touch to them. We paired this gorgeous polka dot shirt with the white and blue striped belt. 

To separate the patterns we used a black thick belt, and a chunky red bead necklace. The necklace is probably my favourite part, as this dash of colour just makes the outfit pop!

Look 4, The summer one

Even if your not spending the summer in New York city, why not dress like you are? Carries summer style is all about fun and bright colours. Here we picked out some gorgeously bright shorts with pastel flowers on them, beautiful patterned detail at the bottom making them look vintage. 

We paired this with a simple black and white top. We accessorized it up with a gorgeous pair of sunglasses, which had bold bright stripes on them.

Look 5, The dressy occasion

Lets all admit it, the only reason we watched those prom episodes were to see what Carrie was going to choose to wear. All of the dresses she chose were beautiful, but always had a unique twist to them! (Who can forget her dress in the season 2 finale, want!!!) 

We wanted this look to be girly and flirty, but also unique and different.  We took this simply beautiful deep burgundy dress, note the lovely lace design at the top of the dress, and decided to jazz it up using a bright white and black spotted belt. We  then matched this (sort of!) with some black spotted tights. To accessorize we added some veeery big grey hoop earrings. 

Look  6 , The home, casual clothes.

For our final piece , we put together a simple, yet clever look. 

The look consists of vintage style floral shorts, from a vintage shop. Matched with a gorgeous denim crop top. To make this outfit stand out more we added a neon necklace saying the word "love" on, with cute little charms hanging from it.

This look is quirky , but simple enough to wear around the house or out with friends.

Flourish of Flowers!

Hello to you all! I hope everyone is having a great summer!
Now i am not the biggest fan of Gardening myself, but i love pretty Gardens, i think they really have character and are worth all the hard work!

Every Gardener will agree with me that the flourish and the burst of colour comes from the gorgeous flowers and that summer is the perfect chance to embrace the beauty of them!
When you plant a flower, given that you look after it, it will live for a long time! That means that every year around spring/summer time (depending on the flower) the plant will burst into bloom and spread a happy atmosphere through your garden.
Flowers aren't that expensive either, lets take a look at some flowers from some local garden centres in Norfolk.

A trip to the Garden Centre , although some may not admit it, is a lovely thing to do.
Lets take a look at some Lovely Garden centres that I personally recommend having been their myself

Bawdeswell, This is a sweet garden centre, with the cutest tea room and lovely book section too! Look at its flower of the month, This will bring a splash of colour to any Garden surely! For more on Bawdewell CLICK HERE!

Emcy Garden & leisure Ltd. in Holt. This is a place I used to visit all the time as a child. It has a nice range of flowers and could easily supply everything you need for a Garden turn around this summer. They are so friendly , their lovely website even has tips on how to grow your own! Taverham , nursery and Country Shopping Centre! This is a great day out for the family. With so much to explore, Plants, garden furniture , fish and general country shopping. I may also add that in the winter they supply lovely Christmas decorations. With a lovely tea room and so much to explore! Fakenham Garden Centre. This is a sweet Garden Centre, full of plants, garden tools and materials, outdoor furnishings and the best of all, Pets and Aquatics! Fish,Rabbits,Guinea pigs, i simply love to look around, they also supply everything you need for your pet with a wide range of fish tanks, hutches, dog/cat beds ect...

Outdoor Vintage Signs! Give it a try?

Hello everyone!
Well the time has come for everyone to start enjoying their summer for real! Stress and Care free!

I once did an article called "That Cute Little Touch"  , Well now it is time for that Outdoor cherry on the top!

You can get so many different types of signs all with cute messages, nouns or sayings on! You can personalize them to.
Like this one...

Haha, what a classic thing to say!

How cute is this , use stencils to create that gorgeous touch!

Heres what you need to do..

What you will need...

~You can make or buy these , here is a preference to buy 

 This letter stencil is elegant and sweet and you can use them more than once too!

~You simply need a bit of wood, doesn't need to be completely smooth either, a little rough will make it that extra bit authentic. ~Here is an example~

This is simply the perfect texture!

~Some paint to paint it over with, can just be rough , care doesn't matter as much for the shabby chic look! ~For Example, Click here~

~You may want another stencil of a rose or something , as an extra little touch! Or maybe make one like this!

~String or Ribbon! Just something to hold the sign up! Unless you are nailing it to a door or wall.

What do you do?

Well this is as simple as 1,2,3,4

1.Paint the piece of wood with your chosen colour and leave to dry!

2.Carefully paint on the lettering using the stencils

3.Add on any extra little Touches , For example: The Rose!

4. Add the string/Nail it to the wall or door!

And their you have it soo simple to do! Great for a rainy day!

Cutie Cushion Covers and Tie-Dye!! x x

Cutie Cushion Covers!!

Get Stuck in!!  Today i will talk about another fun activity that is productive and fun!! It saves money and is a lovely thing to experiment with and explore textures and patterns with friends or family, a great family activity for a rainy day!!

You will need:

A sewing Machine/or you could hand sew if you prefer

A Cushion inside/stuffing

Some material of you're choice of the equivalent size yo your pillow inside

Cushion Lining

Other accessories: E.g ~Buttons~

This activity can take up to an hour. But if you hand sew it could take longer, by hey-ho it is all part of the fun , right guys?? ;)

~Cut you're material (to the size wanted from you're cushion) you need one square piece for the front of your cushion and two rectangular ones for the back (Tip- The two rectangle should both be equal to half the size of the square front) This should leave you with 3 pieces ... Correct?? haha

~Cut and fit the viola to each piece of material, and iron it into place

~Next you need to pin the pieces together so that the two back rectangles slightly overlap to the front square piece of cushion!!

~ Sew all the pieces together ,with you're sewing machine, 

or by hand!! 

~This next step could be done by ribbon or zip, the ribbon is easier so that is what i will tell you...

Attach ribbon to each side of the split in the back to creat a seal for the cushion!! Fold over the ribbon and pin it to the rectangular material , then stitch it on (by hand or by machine). Do this with two bits of ribbon on atleast two or three poiints on  the cushion. You should do this with buttons or ribbons or even a zip, so have fun explore and experiment with it!!

~Put the cushion stuffing in and tie up the cover!! There you have it!!

But what about spicing it up with a tie-dye design!! Give that burst of summer!! 

For £16.67 you can add that extra color, and brightness, i have made a tie-dye cushion too!!

Space...How to use it?? x

Hey Everyone!! I Hope your having a great Half-term, i know i am! Sorry we haven't updated the blog , since Easter but i hope that has given you a chance to explore old articles!!

Today's article is about Space! When designing any room , you must factor in space as a main thing. People say the more space the better , but i think that more space equals more gaps to fill and you can often get the "Over the top" affect. Small spaces can also be a challenge but with the right ideas and a lot of enthusiasm, small spaces can often look nicer, in my opinion, than bigger spaces. Shabby Chic designing is about feeling fresh, feeling relaxed and feeling free, but space isn't the key to that...

You will notice that in Shabby Chic interior , carpets aren't often  used normally floor boards or tiles depending on the room. This creates and open airy feel as supposed to the carpets which suggest a more cosy , sitting by the fire with a cup of tea, vibe. You may say well that vibe sounds nice and yes i will agree it does , but Shabby Chic is about being open and if a room in open it looks bigger than it may actually be.

When applying furniture to a small room you must always think necessitous for example a bedroom, furniture you must have is a bed and then storage in which ever form you wish , Chest of Draws, wardrobe etc... then there is the things that may be nice to have for example a bed side table, or a dressing table, or blanket box. You can't have all these things without it looking crowded, so you must pick and choose!  

As i have said soo many a time accessories can make or break the room, they are my favorite things by far!


I have soo many articles about each of the subjects i have talked about, that unfortunately often get forgotten as they were wrote in 2012 , so i do hope everyone remembers that when designing a room , my tips are found throughout all my articles. Best Buds are Modern and Vintage...
Modern day appliances are something we nowadays find it hard to live without so can you incorporate them into big designs??

Interior for me is a way to express yourself in your home. It doesn't matter to me so much what others think as the idea is that you personalize it so someone knows it is YOUR room. It is a place that is you a place you can go to for support , a place you can stay in for as long as you want!

But how would you express yourself?? Well through colour, through words , through accessories  through statements (for example statement mirrors, check out my other article: www.vintagecountryrose.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/buttercup-statement-mirrors-xx.html )
Rooms need to be helpful and fit to your everyday needs for example if you have a collection of some sort you could devise a vintage compartment look at this one...


There are so many different ways to express yourself but for me it has got to be one colour that stand out from all the rest in  the room a bright colour that you love like this, for example...



Vintage doesn't mean old! You can combine modern day appliances into your design especially for places like the kitchen as i said sometimes the accessories tell the whole story and make the room...


Modern and Vintage are best friends if you just take the time to think it through and include accessories! People miss them out, and think well the main plan is more important but sometimes one accessory can influence your whole room design!! Don't leave accessories till last they can MAKE or BREAK a room!!

That Little cute touch...
A cute little touch to any room is some decorative letters... They can spell out anything you want. You can buy them ready or make them yourself... you could even use decoupage!!!

Colour your hair Naturally!

Hey guys, 
Recently I decided that I wanted a new hair colour, but wanted it to stay natural.Im not an overwhelming fan of using hair dye, as im a pretty spontaneous person, and know that i'll be unhappy with the results in a few weeks, and its also not very good for your hair! I had already heard of some of the common , popular ones like using lemon juice, but seeing as their is pretty much no sun in England, and I can't be bothered to wait till summer, I wanted things I could do any day, and henna : Where on earth do you buy that from? So I decided to try some new ways of dying your hair , without nasty chemicals! So here are a list of some of the ways, while still keeping that natural finish.

The Country Rose 

1. Coffee! ( To Darken) 

Yes, you did read that right! You can dye your hair naturally a few shades Darker with coffee. I myself am planning to try this look. 

And its pretty simple too. Continue to use this look until your happy with the colour. But personally if your going for the natural sort of look, i would do it twice or three times.Lasts until you stop doing it basically. And totally does not damage your hair! Brilliant :) 

You Will Need : 

- A sink

- Cup

- A strong cup of black coffee ( Or if you want

a lighter look, go for a lighter colour coffee,

 but know that this will not be as affective or noticable.)

Instructions : Brew some nice strong coffee : Preferable a strong brand. Leave it black, and give it time to cool.Pour into the sink.

Brush your hair thoroughly , as this will make it easier for the colour to soak in.Soak and massage it into your hair for fifteen minutes( More if you desire more noticable results)

And leave it in your hair for another fifteen minutes or so.You can keep your hair in a clip or band, but don't wrap it in a towel, because this will absorb all the coffee!

 Rinse hair with warm water.

Tip : If you are a light blonde the results will be more dynamic and dramatic! Test the colour on a small section of your hair first.

2.Honey ( Lightener) 

Honey can do this because of the peroxide it releases.And its very easy, but the downside is that it takes a while for the results to show.

Instructions: 

Add some honey to your conditioner every time you condition, and you should notice results in a few weeks or so.

3.Carrot and beet juice! ( Red)

Don't want to use henna for a redish tint? Carrot and beetroot juice can add the same affects to your hair.

Instructions : Mix half a cup of beet juice to half a cup of carrot juice .Pour this over damp hair and dry your hair for about thirty minutes.Leave the rest to dry naturally.If your not satisfied with the intensity of the red, repeat the application for a few weeks.

4.Tea !

Black tea – this can act as an effective stain or dye for darkening hair. Brew a very strong mix of loose tea or tea bags with boiling water. Strain and allow to cool completely before applying to hair ensuring complete saturation.

Chamomile tea – works for highlighting fair high or for subtly lightening blond/ fair hair. Prepare as for black tea.

5.Paprica! ( Red) 

I sure know that I have some in my cupboard , so why not give it a go for reddish tints? So here is how.

Tip : Paprica gives particularly good results with Rose hip tea. ( or make your own with rose petals and boiling water).

Instructions: 

Make a paste using the paprica, either mixed with the tea, or with just water. Comb it into your hair.

6.Coco- powder! ( Darker) 

This is really cool , and I know I have some coco powder somewhere, so its easily do-able too! 

Instructions :
Take half of your normal shampoo , and fill the rest of the bottle up with coco-powder. Mix well. Use like normal shampoo. Three times should do it ! ( More if you would prefer a darker colour)

Vinegar and soy-sauce!

Both of these are things that I always have at home, and its so easy to do.

Instructions:

Make a mixture of both Vinegar and soy-sauce and use it as a conditioner when you shower! Leave it in for 2-5 minutes, and rinse it out.

Remember to use these things with caution if you have light hair, as these are generally made for people with darker hair. But many such as the Camomile tea and Honey are suitable for all hair colours! <3
